Here is a list of films I regard as the 'best' I've ever seen; free of favouritism or sentimentality.

But first, here is a small introduction to what I believe makes a 'great' film: My criteria tends to be made up of the following aspects: ambition; production and/or artistic value; thematic depth; cinematic influence; social/historical/cultural significance and relevance; and finally, a sense of timelessness that simultaneously educates us about the time in which the film was made, yet doesn't doesn't feel confined to its respective time-period of construction.

The films don't necessarily have to abide by all aspects of the criteria, but they must at the very least abide by one of them to a major extent.

Please bear in mind that I have so many classics, foreign language films and more recent acclaimed films to tick off, so this is far from a definitive list. It is however, a compilation of films that I believe are either extremely important/influential, mind-blowingly impressive, incredibly well-crafted or a combination of all of the above.
