Donald C. “Shorty” Richards
Dollar Bay: Donald C. “Shorty” Richards, 86, a longtime resident of Dollar Bay, now residing in Houghton, passed away on Tuesday, November 22, 2016 at U.P Health System-Portage in Hancock.
He was born on July 11, 1930 in Hancock to the late Harold William and Fannie Eleanor (Ranta) Richards. He graduated from Houghton High School in 1948. He was employed at Michigan Bell Telephone Company, and later at Michigan Tech University until his retirement in 1993.
On July 3, 1954 he married Lorraine D. Spellich. The couple had recently celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary.
Don was a member of the Dollar Bay Lion's Club, Communication Workers of America/Pioneers, Runeberg Lodge of Dollar Bay, Copper Country Bowling League, and the Portage Lake Golf Club. He was an avid local sports fan and the Green Bay Packers.
Besides his parents, he was also preceded in death by 4 brothers, 2 sisters (all originally of Houghton), and a son-in-law, Brian Premetz.
He is survived by his wife, Lorraine; a son Robert (Carrie) Richards of Houghton, a daughter Betty Premetz of Green Bay, and a son Glenn Richards of Dollar Bay; 9
